Sir Laurence Nunns Guillemard, (1862–1951) was a British civil servant and diplomat who served as high commissioner in Malaysia when it was under the British Empire. ==Biography== Guillemard spent his early career in the civil service, where he was for several years Principal Private Secretary to Sir Michael Hicks Beach, Chancellor of the Exchequer. In May 1902 he was appointed Deputy-Chairman of the Board of Inland Revenue. He was appointed Governor of Straits Settlements and British High Commissioner in Malaya in 1920, and was one of the promoters of British policies favouring the Malay ethnic group. He was invested as a Knight of the Order of the Bath and a Knight of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1925.〔The London Gazette, 16 June 1925 http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/33057/pages/4075/page.pdf〕 He left Malaysia in 1927 and retired from the diplomatic service.
